Spirituality

Spirituality has so many definitions in our culture that it can mean everything and nothing at the same time.

For Christians, sprituality describes one's walk with God, whom we know as Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It's about a relationship to God that's developed in prayer, worship and learning. It's also a relationship that grows from being a disciple of Jesus, following his teachings, and experiencing life as his follower.

We believe in a Holy Spirit that is sent to us from God to build us up and help us in our walk with God in our lives. While the experience of the Holy Spirit is real and powerful, it is not the purpose or goal of our faith, but a tool that God gives us to live lives of love, compassion, service, and obedience to his will.

There are many ways to connect with God at Our Saviour's. The first is worship. All spiritual life depends on this. Then we offer Bible studies, classes, and various experiences to learn more about Jesus and the Christian faith. In addition, remember the need for community, for others to support you and guide you in your journey. And with all that, spirituality is lived out in the work and service we do in building up the greater community and the world.

So, if you are looking for something in your life, be that a purpose, a connection, or a chance to experience the meaning and truth of God's love, we invite you to join us at Our Saviour's. Wherever you are in that journey, you are welcome as you are. There is no requirement to participate in any of our spiritual growth opportunities; they're open to all - member of Our Saviour's or not.

Finally, consider the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the church in Rome. These sum up Christian spirituality very well.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God-- what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2
